Non-Executive Director Role
Shape the Future of a Net Zero Carbon Built Environment in the UK

The UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard is seeking to appoint two Non-Executive Directors to help shape the future of one of the built environment sector's most important market transformation initiatives.

Created through an unprecedented collaboration of leading industry organisations, the UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard provides the UK's first industry-agreed definition of a Net Zero Carbon Aligned building. Combining climate science, real-world data, and independent verification, the Standard is helping establish a trusted, consistent framework to accelerate decarbonisation across the UK's built environment.

Following the successful launch of Version 1 in March 2026, NZCBS Ltd is entering an important new phase. The focus now is on embedding the Standard in industry practice, supporting widespread adoption, maintaining technical credibility, and ensuring the Standard continues to evolve in line with climate science, market needs, and the UK's net zero transition.
This is a unique opportunity to contribute to an initiative that will influence how buildings are designed, refurbished, financed, owned and operated across the UK for decades to come. We are seeking exceptional individuals with strategic insight, sound judgement and a collaborative approach to leadership.

Candidates may come from any part of the built environment; real estate, investment, finance, sustainability, standards and assurance, public policy or related sectors. Most importantly, they will bring a commitment to the long-term success of the Standard and a desire to help drive meaningful change across the industry.

Successful candidates will join the Board on a voluntary basis, contributing through a monthly meeting of 1-1.5 hours with occasional additional engagement as required. The role allows significant influence, providing independent oversight, constructive challenge and strategic guidance as NZCBS Ltd develops its next chapter. Non-Executive Directors will help safeguard the integrity and independence of the Standard, while supporting its growth, relevance and lasting impact.
We particularly welcome applications from individuals who can bring diverse perspectives, new thinking and complementary expertise. If you are passionate about advancing the transition to a net zero carbon built environment and would welcome the opportunity to help steer an industry-defining initiative, we would be pleased to hear from you.
